Battlefield 4 specs released. Window's 8 recommended OS.

I'm good to go except for one thing Windows 8 is the recommended OS for release.  This is due to Win 7 not supporting DX11.1.  So is anyone running this currently?  Rampant compatitbility with games or no issues?  I may just wait it out and see what enhancements the new dx version brings before upgrading.

Well that sucks, because I would rather spend my money upgrading hardware if anything at all.  I don't know if there any compatibility issues for Windows 8 for games or not but I have heard that some games actually perform better with it, even those that came out prior to the launch of Windows 8.  If you do get Windows 8 and miss not having the Start button, I know you can download a free third party software to add it.

Start menu is no issue for me. In fact from what I read metro ui feels extremely close to a console ui. Which is a plus in my book. Only thing is how long will MS support it if it doesn't catch on? Also will devs even utilize those new features since Win 8 hasn't reached any decent saturation? I

Well, unless they do a price drop (like they did when it was released) I'm staying with Windows 7.

I thought they added, or are adding the Start Button with the service pack? Could be wrong as I haven't been following it.

I hope they do add the start button with the Service Pack.  I am sure they heard some noise about it.  I hate the default UI for Windows 8, but once you put it in desktop mode it's not that bad.  I will have to wait and see what the disadvantages are with Using Windows 7 in the game before I decide on switching.

When Battlefield 3 came out, it was one of the first if not the first game to require Windows 7.  By that time however, Windows 7 was the predominant operating system.  People seem to be staying away from Windows 8 like it is the Black Plague.

3 Gigs of video ram recommended. This really pisses me off. I just purchased a GTX 770 2 Gig.  Fuckers.

Yea I dropped the extra 50 for a 4gig 770 but I suspect 3 gigs and above really only makes a difference for higher resolutions more then anything.  If your 1080p or below you'll be good to go I'm sure, so don't trip.   Nvidia are not fools and would not give AMD the advantage to use against them since most high end AMD cards have rolled with 3gigs for a while now. If they suspected that 2gigs would not get people through this next generation, especially on a tentpole game like Battlefield, then they would have made sure there was enough memory for the frame buffer.  Your cool Pete don't sweat it your 770 will smoke that game just fine.

I am curious which brand of card you guys have gone with. My current one is a ASUS Radeon. The local shop has EVGA 770's with 4GB. Personally, I am tempted to wait to see if ASUS releases one. I am pretty impressed with the card I have.

Gigabyte 4gig windforce 770. I would have stuck with my 7970 but I sold it to my neighbor. Three monster yet ultra quiet fans keep my 770 cool as a cucumber. Only reason I made the switch was because of gpu boost 2.0 which does a nice dynamic oc depending on the gpu temp. No other 770 has that cooler at that price range so Gigabytes version is pretty popular. Only advantage to evga is their trade in program but their cards are overpriced in my opinion.

THanks Mr402. I'll have to look at that one. The dynamic OC sounds interesting.
