Mid Engine Rear Drive, Anyone else seem to think these are real tail happy
So as Im building up cars, it seems the Mid Engine cars are real tail happy (all around). Anyone else noticing this? The front engine, rear drive cars I can get to really stick in the rear but the MR cars I cant seem to get to hock up in the rear and is always wanting to step out.
Hmmm... It's funny you say that because I was thinking that about the Opel from the other night. I only did two races so I thought it was just my inexperience and the lack of any tune on my car. Ill have to drive some more of them and see what you mean.
Oh, and the Dino in that Good Wood run felt that way but it doesn't have tons of power so maybe it wasn't as noticeable.
The RUF Porsche cars must be tough. Anyone driven those yet?
Not lower down, but the 458, yes under heavy braking and under acceleration when its still settling.
It may also be down to the move from FM where they were very tame.
Need more seat time to work out whether its a real issue.
There is definitely something wrong with some of the MR cars. I've been completely unable to tune the crazy oversteer out of the f40 no matter what I do. I read over at gtp that the 1.02 update may have fixed some cars though. I'll have to check it out later today
Hmmm, the F40 seemed ok when I used it. Need to have another look.
As for the 458, it was on Mount Panorama, and had a few upgrades.
I found the 458 really good when I used it in the super car races but as soon as I used it in the gt championship it was a different car very tail happy
Certainly understand why youd make that comment they are a handful thats for sure. I honestly dont know what is right or wrong but based on what I've been reading (hearing lots of people that claim to have real world experience suggests that PD got it right - granted just as many if not more that hate it) I'm leaning towards belieiving it might be right???
MR are my favorite types of cars so I've tested quite a few of them now and only a few of them seem really hard to tame. Of all the Lotus Elise I tested the other day only one or two I had real problems with. Most of the real powerful MR cars haven't caused me much problems either. Thats said the Renault Turbo 5 continuee to elude me, that awesome car is the worse I've experienced to date. Pretty sure some differential will be needed to tame that bad boy?
On the bright side it really does force you to not get on the gas too early mid-turn cause if you have to lift off you're fucked.
Special thanks to Max for helping me out today with this as I was going in the wrong direction with my adjustments trying to keep the back ends from braking loose.
I was trying to soften the rear to get it to bit which was not working for me. This really helped. Thanks Max. Hopefully this will help others with these MR beasts!
Most of the MR cars I have played with like having equal or close to equal front and rear spring rates. Increasing the front rates will make the car more neutral feeling and less likely to lift off oversteer.
Actual values for spring rates. Whatever the rear number is I set the front to match and play with it from there.
