Was very tempted to download it today, but after watching a few matchs on PS Live I`m not sure if it`s worth 69.99. I know, I know playing is always better than watching but the monsters look way too OP to me. Saying that I`ll probably pick it up on sale some day (it`ll have to be at least 50% off)
I think this game looks good and seems like lots of fun - especially with friends. I'm not sure it has the staying power to justify me spending full price for it, but I may pick it up once it goes on sale.
I've played it off and on since picking it up Tues. I wanted to bad to just love this game, but I don't. So much of it is so well done, but it just doesn't come together quite enough for me. I find myself slogging through the progression and thinking about playing something else. My biggest problems:
- I might not be good at the game
- The action is intense and should be exciting, I don't know what's going on half the time. -- When I'm the monster (I'm a terrible goliath, but I can't play either of the other two becuase they are locked behind progressing the goliath), whether its my eyes, my screen or just the game, I can't really see the hunters and I just flail about trying to aim at health bars and searching for character names so I can try and target the medic. -- When I'm a hunter, I have a hard time tracking and staying focused on the monster. They can jump around so much, I often don't know where it is, even if the arena is up.
- I've had one match against the Wraith and it was awful, that thing is simply impossbile to pin down. No fun to play against at all. And that is one of three.
- The progression seems punititave and I wish I could swap and try some different characters, especially the monsters, but I have to fully rank up the ones I have before I get there. Progression seems slow (not "bad at game" lines above) and I'm stuck with some that I just don't enjoy using.
- I think it would be better with more friends playing..
- I got the game 20% off, an extra $10 reward and several dollars worth of Best Buy points buying this thing. I think I can trade it back in for $39 and come out ahead. That's my plan anyway.

Thanks for the honest review. I've been on the fence about this one, and kinda glad I waited. The reviews all seem about the same as what you said. Its not a bad game, but it isnt really wowing anyone either.
The slow progression is one of the issues I've seen others mention. I don't get restricting people on the monsters/hunters you can play until you rank up. I could understand unlocking abilities, but seems like it's very restrictive when playing early in the game.
I bought it when it came out and really enjoy it. I am almost level 40 and haven't been playing it too much. It is a HARD game and takes time to learn. Watch the advanced tutorial videos under extras and read the developer tips on the Evolve website: http://evolvegame.com/news/the-evolve-strategy-guide These help immensely and play online with chat on. This will help you find the people that are communicating and add them as friends. I thought, initially, that beating a monster was next to impossible. Now I find that it is actually possible. It is definitely a thinking person's game. Very frustrating but it is really satisfying once you get it. You can play solo custom games in any mode. You can make it as easy or as hard as you want. You can give the monster or hunters the advantage. You can even have a 2nd minion Goliath to help the monster (player) or the AI. It's easy to try out things and experiment. Any unlocks and experience carries over to all other modes, multiplayer included. If you want to level fast , play the evacuation mode, you could earn up to 5700 experience after finishing the last round of defend. Defense mode is a great way to unlock stars too. You can also play a 4-player coop online game against an AI monster or play with a full party of 5, 4 hunters and 1 monster. If you have enough friends you would NEVER have to play online with strangers or AI. The Evolve app on iOS and windows phones is a great way to get a boost and it's fun. It can take a while to master too, just watch who the monsters are targeting and use your abilities wisely. (Not sure about Android) Send me a friend request on XBL with a message of 2o2p subject. This weekend, actually it's already started, you can get free gold skins for the monsters if you play online.
