Assetto Corsa pre order announced for this month & BTCC 2013 mod in development

The mod I spotted on RD

That will be a ton of work modelling such a large grid but I hope they manage it.
Think iam gonna wait for a bit on this one as I've got too much on my plate I already enjoy :). And in all honesty iam very skeptical of mods for next gen sims, rf2 didn't really raise the bar in the graphics area so updating a few textures and converting rf1 mods is simple (if you know how too. :) imoa the recent v8 supercar mod for rf2 that was released, the cockpits hardly looks any better than the race 07 v8 rd ran last week. Now if a well respected and talented teams like fvr could only produce that little of an enhancement graphic wise I question how terrible other mods could be....to give a visualization of what I mean think of this....
those v8's running around on a pcars or Ac track it would look terrible lol like on TV when they try incorporating a cartoon character into a real life scene on a low budget show :)
now iam not bashing rf2 graphics cause they can look good at times, iam just saying for the talent of most current modders there's a very small gap between dev content and the modders so it works for both sides currently :)
every time I see a thread labeled btcc mod i get all excited, this one after thought will be an enormous task which I can't see being released anytime soon nor can I imagine it matching the quality of the other ingame content.... If they/he can accomplish this feat I'd personally fly to his house and congratulate him :) hell I'd probably write him a check too!
Regards to the pre buy thread iam pretty sure that was a copy and paste job with a few added lines from there pre buy they released last fall telling us the game was to be released in may 2013 :)
asides from the lotus Ferrari BMW single cars they announced I've heard nothing else of content that will be present on release day. As its been announced that certain features will not be present on release day , I think this is gonna be another undercover beta at release....same thing all the devs are doing to make a quick buck to support the projects
iam all for supporting modders who can create there product from scratch but I feel there's very few capable of producing dev quality content just due to the technology they have access too
not saying its impossible but you will see less quality going further I believe. Too many modders are just ripping off other games content and converting it recent news I heard of was someone created a tool to hack pcars files and copied all the cars.....so I would expect to see them converted to other games in the near future.
Yeah the quality is hit and miss, and will most definitely have seen the last of content in the scale of rfactor (especially since its still churning out quality content on a fortnightly basis)
And like you say if top rf1 modders struggle with next gen sims, it explains why many modders seem to be throwing their toys out the pram with cancelling mods and blaming ISI.
Isn't Sandrox's mods PCARS rips? The BAC mono and super cart has the same skins.
I reckon I probably will pre order just to complete the collection lol.
Haven't seen that mod yet, but once you mentioned sandbox it wouldn't surprise me he's be crowned the rip the off king of modding and is frowned apon by many in the community
I see what you mean by the rip off king.
He's converted the T5 series for rf1!
EDIT: oops, with permissions and links lol
From what I've head is that he hacks content from other games and converts it to rf1 and has stolen alot of the German modding teams content. He was banned from rd a while back. Odd he had permission converting the t5 mod considering the original was a pay mod and freeze2k was just about to finish up his 2013 Dtm mod as well as the chap at rd? Iam sure this will cause a bit of an uproar in the modding community
BAM!! another delay on pre orders....
http://www.racedepartment.com/2013/09/assetto-corsa-pre-orders-delayed-d...
Yeah, I don't do pre-orders. The closest thing to a pre-order I've done was Guild Wars 2. And the only reason I did it then, was the pre-orders got a 3 day head start if purchased 5 days prior to launch or sooner. I purchased it on the last day possible to get the head start, 2 days prior to it going live.
Yeah...I still want to see a lot more before I put down any money.
All I've seen is a bunch of pretty pictures for a game that was supposed to be released in May and fan boys in every forum posting how great this game is based off a demo?
All to just get spa which iam sure they will or sell down the road. This game might get some consideration later on down the road if worthy at that point. Too many unanswered questions about features being unavailable on release or content that will be available. The other things I really want to see is how the quality of the mods will look compared to ingame content, as I haven't been visually wow by any of the rf2 mods released to date I have a feeling they will stick out like a sore thumb in Ac. Not saying it can't be done but it's gonna take a hell of talented artist!
Not to mention the length of time it'll take to mod.
The way this next gen is looking, it lengthens the lifespan of rfactor and race 07 even further by a god few years.
Actually the time taken to model the car is no greater than it has ever been, remember this is done outside the sims with graphic design software and then imported into the sims where the work on applying the physics is done. This is where the time is being taken up at the moment as they get to grips with all the new physics code. Once this is done future projects get faster. Also as the sims get more base models in, modders will be able to take those physics models and apply then to their cars, so for example when the civic is released there is then a base FWD physics model that can be tweaked to model other FWD saloons. What we have at the moment is a learning curve, already some crews are on the pace, the V8 mod for example is very good and is still being tweaked.
Same goes for tracks, there have been a rush of conversions that are not that great, but in among them there are a handful of hi standard scratch built tracks like crofts from feels3 and others.
No I think this next year will see a lot of quality releases as the great mod teams get to grips with the new kit and release the work already under progress. And we are also seeing new talent emerging and some very interesting collaborative work going on. No from where I sit the future is bright, rF2 the pure racing sim will mature, and like rF1 be supported and worked on for years to come, pCars with its huge budget, big team and community development program will in time lay the ghost of shift to rest and be the driving sim of choice if you like the Grand Tourisimo of the PC and despite my moans about it, I am sure it will get there.
AC? well still nothing to go on, will it run as well with 20 cars, weather, real road, night and day etc etc...I hope so, but need to know before I put any money down.
There gonna have to come up with some ground breaking stuff for me to purchase it cause I need another game on my hdd collecting dust like I need a bullet in my head. It's to similar in ways to pcars and that game offers me more than any game available and meets all my needs so it will be pretty hard to pull me away for a while :)
