Will we be making use of the "base model" cars a lot in online racing, as they have custom numbers and colours etc? Shame you can't paint like in forza, but i'm wondering what to spend my eventual millions on.
I've been getting the livery versions as the base models are so plain... I thought sponsor stickers would at least be on base models... Hmm, I wonder if a sticker editor is in the works... Something to make the car unique besides numbers. But I can simply buy the base versions as money isn't an issue anymore.

My thought as well however since I color code my garage now, I've actually sold all the non base Models and purchased the equivalent Base Model cars. I only run the full livery models if there is no base model available
I have picked up as many base models as I can till now hoping that we will use them at some point :)

Almost all the GT2 / 3 cars have a base model.
If there is an option buy the Base one then add your number and Color etc.
Go here and in the search bar type "base model" and it'll come up with all the base models in the game:
