F5 - December Update Introduces Cheaper Cars, Drag Racing

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/12/forza-5-economy-update-introduces-cheaper-cars-drag-racing

Turn 10 Studios will release a Forza Motorsport 5 update this month -- as early as next week -- that adds Drag Racing and Tag multiplayer modes, in addition to a more balanced economy.

Car prices have been reduced significantly, with the on-disc cars reduced in price by 45%. So, the $6 million Ferrari 250 GTO you’ve been saving for is now a more accessible $2 million purchase. The rate at which racers earn money has more than doubled, as well. Turn 10 estimates Forza 5 players will be able to earn exotic cars in one-fifth of the time they earned them in Forza Motorsport 4.

“We based our economy largely on Forza Motorsport 4 data,” creative director Dan Greenwalt told IGN. That $6 million Ferrari? It cost $10 million in Forza 4.

“The earn rate [in Forza 5] should have been the same,” Greenwalt explained. Player patterns are different now, however, which meant racers were earning less. And so Turn 10 adapted based on telemetry. Based on that data, Turn 10 is "making updates pretty quickly and painlessly," and will continue to do so based on community feedback.

Drag Racing supports up to 16 racers in one lobby, one-on-one duels, or eight cars on the same drag strip, and Tag mode comes in three multiplayer variants:

Keep the It: One player begins the match as “It.” The goal is for the “It” player to keep “It” status for as long as possible. “It” status transfers each time someone makes contact with the “It” player. Once the match timer has completed, the player with the most “It” time wins.

Tag Virus – One player begins the match as “It.” Each time an “It” player makes contact with another car, the “It” status spreads like a virus. The last uninfected player standing wins the match.

Pass the It: Similar to “Keep the It”, one player begins a “Pass the It” match with “It” status. “It” status transfers each time someone makes contact with the “It.” At the end of the match, the player with the least amount of “It” time wins.

+1

It's just frustrating that the best looking, sounding and arguably the best racing game (in terms of physics, GT6 feels pretty good too) is saddled with some of these ideas that have no basis in MOTORSPORT.  More content and gameplay options that cater to organized racing is what is needed. Look, I have no problem with players who primarily experience Forza as a single player game. I'm just saying that it would not take away a seconds worth of enjoyment for those players if gifting, car clubs, an AH, tire wear options seperate from full SIM damage and a few other things were put in this game.

You know what would have been cool? If I could run spec races with select drivatars (people on my FL or in my Car Club) that I picked and help them earn CR and XP. I ran a 10 lap race at Spa today with the drivatars set on "Unbeatable" and not one of them was a friend of mine. That sucks...

I am happy to see the Economy is being updated for you guys and the future of the game.  It will help the new guys who get FM5 later.

As for Tag being added, I repeat Max's thoughts - 116

I'm happy to see that Dan admitted that there are problems, and that they didn't get all their information just from palyer feedback.  Would love to see the data they looked at and how much different it was to what they were expecting.  The first Week In Review that was published after release started off with how great the feedback from players was. All you had to do was look at the forums though and see people were pissed.

Anyways hats off to T10 for saying they see a problem and are looking at some corrections.  I also hope they start putting some focus on the community side of the house and getting some of the multiplayer functions back, like car clubs.

Very cool.  I have been holding off on spending several million in credits I got from Forza rewards.  This should allow me to get a classic F1 car and an IndyCar next week.  smiley

I just spent 1.6 mil on a Pagani, come on!  At least they're listening and reacting, bringing back a few missing modes restores a little of my faith that they'll bring back more important things in the future.

seems like Tag was in other Forza games, so I'm not sure the problem.

Shadow, and I'm NOT trying to be mean buddy, but you're new to the dance and the guys above aren't.

That said, they're just poking some fun at the developers, they're all aware of previous iterations of Forza.

It may come as a shock, but the majority of us in here aren't real serious at any given moment.

Especially Max...cheeky

Dan admitting problems is cause for a celebration I do believe! Party's at Grim's house!!!

I am not new to the dance, but like Shadow, I am missing the point.  Maybe you can fill us in OldSchool???  I feel like the freshman in high school and you are the senior that is talking about "how we do things around here".

Actually that was Churchpro.

Quote:

However, most of us, as CPro alluded, try to avoid contact and "tag" is overtly contact oriented...do I need to pull out a sheepskin or is that good enough?

As for the newer guys, sometimes they don't realize the old farts around here are poking fun and aren't serious, thereby not needing a reference to the contrary to dispute said merrymaking...

WTH is wrong with everyone lately? I'm gonna go play Minecraft...

I just read that article from Greenawalt in the other thread snappy and he said they want people to become attached to their cars (in keeping with the car lovers theme you know) and that's why they took away gifting of cars, no other reason, certainly not an underhanded scheme to promote token purchases if that's what you're thinking.

Yea he wants us to have a relationship with our pixel cars, cause you know they mean so much to us.  The only pixel things that I have a relationship with are on sites that I have to make sure the wife and kids are asleep.  None of the cars so far have gotten me that excited.  11

Why would they admit the reason is to sell tokens?  They'd be shooting themselves in the foot, even if we know it's the reason without them saying so.  Same goes for holding cars back for day one DLC.  Even if they didn't get these few cars done by the time the discs were pressed they could have made the DLC free.

Yea I don't know when the disc were made, I'm sure months ago so that they could be ready for launch and distributed.   I'm sure thats when the DLC cars were done, but still it doesn't look good to have day one DLC.  Sadly T10 isn't the only ones who do this either.  Starting to see a lot more games that have day one DLC.

It's all our own doing. If we didn't buy the packs they wouldn't do them. It's the same with all games but it's chuffing hard not to buy the things :(

Even if they have the first DLC come out  a month after the game who's to say that it wasn't done and ready by day one but they held off a month so people wouldn't say "Day one DLC, WTF?"

What's the difference?

i think it will be better if they just aloud people driving the stock car in free mode and earn xp ..

in that way it will be more interesting to play for a longer time the game to buy everything ... i did not buy the lotus e21 at 3mil i wait and buy it at 6mil because i want my bank account to be empty  so i can enjoy make another million after that

So rich Forza players can't help poor Forza players and possibly, just possibly, it will force a few of those poor Forza playes to buy tokens.

That's the truthful answer. The Turn 10 marketing answer is you'll become so attached to your Forza 5 cars why would you ever want to give them away?

Within a few days of Forza 4's release, I was able to buy around 50 million in Forza 4 game credits via forza4credits.com, or something like that.  Essentially, I paypaled $50 and the next thing I know, I had 50 Ferrari GTOs gifted to me.  My guess is that Turn 10 wanted to shut down that type of behavior and instead have guys like me buy tokens.  So far, I have refused to do so.  I am finding the the Forza rewards coupled with the VIP/LE gift cars are tiding me over, even though the in-game credit payouts are low.

Putting the obvious truth of wanting to control the marketplace for their own advantage aside.... There was no GOOD reason to do such a thing. There were probably other ways to deal with the Forzacredits.com people without getting rid of gifting.

BTW, I just received a second Lotus E21 from the T10 team. WTF am I going to do with it!?!?  I don't drive the first one I got. And since I don't drive it I'm not going to paint it! I could have sold it to the game and had countless other relationships with cars in the game. I could have traded it for a car I wanted and found it a good home where someone else could have had a relationship with it. And now, the girl...er..um..car I really want is sitting in the showroom looking back at me. Just wanting me to drive her,er..uh..it aggressively. Ugh...good grief.

I find your ranting in bad taste.

Forza 4 still operates as well or better than it ever did and I'm quite happy playing it.

The only thing negative to be found in this post is your quote. If you insist on your infantile ranting, while claiming "I'm only joking" do it without me or my name.

Church, this may need to be locked as it simply won't die on it's own...
