Call of Duty To Get Patch With Fixed Maps

The Call of Duty map pack disaster will soon be fixed.

The five map Valor Map pack which came out a few weeks ago was quickly pulled when it was discovered that they actually didn’t work. One has to wonder who on the Marketplace Certification Team was asleep at the wheel when that happened! Gamers paid their points to download the pack and ended up downloading a defective product.

On Major Nelson's latest podcast, he interviewed one of the guys on the map development team to get the inside scoop. Though they never really gave the reason why the maps didn’t work, they did emphasize that they are working around the clock to fix the problems. The designer also walks the listener through each of the five maps explaining what they’re about.

Today a member of Treyarch’s factor Call of Duty team AxisOf3vil posted on the xbox.com forums with an update. The Update reads as follows:

Hey Call of Duty 3 fans:

We have some news that many have been anxiously anticipating. We will be re-releasing the Valor map pack for download over Xbox Live Marketplace in the very near future. Alongside that release, we will also be issuing a Title Update which addresses two key issues that many users have voiced in the forums:
  1. When the Ranked lobby countdown reaches zero, the lobby will sometimes boot all users back to the previous menu screen.
  2. When the game successfully loads into a Ranked Match, occasionally some users will fall outside of the map.

Because we will be releasing both the map pack and the Title Update that addresses Ranked Match issues simultaneously, adequate time is needed for final testing with a release in the near future. Thank you all again for your patience during this past few days. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience. We hope to see you all on the battlefield!

While the patch to fix the ranked games would be a very welcome addition, shouldn’t they be focusing on fixing what so many users have already paid for and downloaded? Also note that it says the map pack and patch have yet to go through the certification process. So ‘very near future’ most likely translates into two to three weeks.
