CoD 2 pushes $1 million marketplace!?

Activision's CEO Bobby Kotick estimates $1 million USD for the Call of Duty 2 downloadable content on Xbox Live Marketplace. Woah.

If this isn't the foundation for our downloadable future than I don't know what is. This is 1 million in additional money on a game that was released a year ago.

Consider how these numbers can be used by other companies to base additional extended content to keep a game fresh for an additional year. The amount of development time for additional features will be much less than a full spin of a new title.

All the next-generation consoles are talking about "online play" and "online content" and if these estimates become consistent for other games it will sure change how our future of gaming works.

Hopefully, this does not inspire developers to shorten a games length or total content so they can push it out a few months later. Additional features, classes, information, and content is a plus for any game as long as it does not become a method to hold back features just for an extra boost in prices.

We want the full game with expansions later, not a new method to upsell consumers at every turn. Lets cross our fingers that these new statistics are used for good. The dark side of the force is strong with marketing...
