The launch date has been set to March 23rd, 2007 across all SCEE territories. Sony is saying there will be one million units available on launch day which is up huge from their 250,000 they had for the USA launch.
There’s a slight catch though, there will be no ‘cheap’ version available at launch. Sony has focused their efforts on producing only the 60GB version to help make this huge number of consoles. The 20GB version may not be available in the region for some time, Sony is saying there is little demand for this unit from retailers and consumers so they aren’t committed at the moment to bringing the lower end system to Europe.
So how much is your new shiny black toy going to cost? In the UK you will be shelling out GBP 425 and everywhere else except Ireland will pay EUR 599. For some reason Ireland gamers (who also pay in Euros) will have to pay EUR 629.99 !
There are no details yet on how many units will be going to each region. One would think that the majority will be found in the UK though since they account for up to 30 percent of the European gaming market.
