I said months ago that Gears of War would be the fastest selling Xbox360 title so far and today Microsoft has made it official.
In it's first two weeks on the shelves, Gears has sold one million copies world-wide. Europe saw their Emergence Day this week and Gears reached #1 on their sales charts almost immediately. This also makes Gears the fastest selling new Intellectual Property title ever for Xbox or Xbox360. Before you pull the Halo2 card, that doesn't count since it was a sequel.
Xbox Live has been set on fire with Gears matches. So far more than 850,000 gamers have played some 10 million battles on Xbox Live. Gears is also helping bring people to Gold membership status either by converting their Silver account or signing up their first profile as Gold. Paid memberships are up 50% since Gears of War went on sale.
Reviews of Gears have been outstanding as well with 45 publications giving it an average score or 95. I guess the bugs and problems in multiplayer weren't on their copies of Gears? At any rate Gears of War is on track to be named Game of the Year for 2006.
I would seem that 'Achievement Whores are going all out as well, there have been 7 million achievement unlocks to date in Gears of War. I just love it when the toast pops up!
