Google trends show Xbox 360 ahead

In the race for next-generation one starting point is Google Trends. This little (beta) tool lets you see some search trends on the popular engine...

After looking at some of the trends of typical searches using obvious keywords "playstation 3, xbox 360, wii" Google Trends will try to track the graph. You will see that the trend has been all about Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, not too surprising right?

Well, what if the trend changed slightly? Let us say that the Wii got all interesting in the last few months? Could those trends change sales figures for the holiday season? Sure seems like there is some truth to the theory:

What you see here is the Wii pulling ahead of the PlayStation 3 for hype. Sure, no graphics here show you $$$ figures or market projections but its not a bad start. I'm sure companies use these type of figures to get an idea of how consumers are taking to the product.

Of course the PlayStation 3 is doing fairly well, in the long run, against the Xbox 360 given that the PS3 isn't out yet and the 360 has been around for a year. Oddly, Wii Sports seems to have pushed up the hype. It looks good but not THAT good...does it?

Although some might say it means nothing, could be some type of precursor to the launch?

Thanks to TANK for this wonderful query
