- Gears of War
- Final Fantasy XII
- Zelda: Twilight Princess
- Guitar Hero 2
A report by www.gamesindustry.biz seems to tell a similar story about sales figures. Based on top games over the last few months, how many have been exclusive PlayStation 3 titles? None.
You can find a title for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and the Nintendo Wii. As a matter of fact, two of the top four titles are PlayStation 2 games. Do you wonder why the PS2 did so good in December?
Games will always sell more consoles than hype. Final Fantasy XII and Guitar Hero 2 rank among some of the top games in 2006 by many consumers. What would Decembers console sales figures look like had Guitar Hero 2 and Final Fantasy XII been released on the PS3 console instead?
First, they'd not have been top games of the year because they would have been released near the end of the year on a system that was hard to get. Instead they were released to a mature console at an earlier date. However, did Sony want to sell PS2 consoles or PS3 consoles? It would seem they really wanted to sell the PS2 console given the top game titles were released for the older system.
As gamedaily points out, the PlayStation 3's biggest competitor in the industry? It's former last-generation product.
