Here''s a story that will surely warm the cockles of your heart. Microsoft as decided to enter the music business. Apparently watching Apple clean up in the digital music field even though they only have a 3% market share in the PC market was a little galling.
Well Microsoft''s Xbox supremo Robbie Bach is to be put in charge of Microsoft''s digital music business. With the X360 as the heart of the system, as you can read HERE
Opinion
Apple has a collossal presence in this market segment. Microsoft might just be trying to take too big a bite out of the Apple here.
IPod is the 600 pound gorilla in the digital music market. Xox will have to talk nice to it in order to break into the existing market. In addition it would be good to talk I-tunes as well. Somehow I don''t see Microsoft linking temselves so closely to Apple.
So what does this all mean? Microsoft have said again and again that the X360 will be a media center, apparently they meant it. I hope that Robbie Bach doesn''t take his eye off the Xbox ball while trying to make the music thing work well. This looks like the first in many announcements to come from Microsoft blurring the distinction between the X360 and the Mcirosoft mediacenter PCs. I was kinda hoping that they would avoid doing that and keep clear focus on gaming and the things that make Xbox great. Time will tell.
One other thing comes to mind, what''s good for the goose is good for the gander. Microsoft can hardly complain about Sony claiming their system is something more than a game system when they are making their own system a media center replacement.
Good times ahead.
