Microsoft had a killer Christmas season, the Xbox 360 outsold both the new Nintnedo Wii and Sony Playstation 3 in the USA.
NPD, a collector and report generator of sales figures is reporting that 2 million Xbox 360’s sold between November 1, 2006 and December 25th 2006. The newly launched Nintendo Wii was hot on the Xbox heels though selling 1.8 million units between launch on Nov 19th 2006 and Christmas Day. Finally and with no surprise, Sony came in last due to scarce console availability selling only 750,000 between launch on November 17th 2006 and December 25th, 2006.
To be fair, Nintendo could have probably sold even more if Microsoft hadn’t had an extra 19 days in November. Microsoft also benefited no doubt from the lack of availability of both the Wii and the Playstation 3 on store shelves.
Though Nintendo DS figures aren’t yet available, DS sales have been spanking the competition. This combined with the overall success of the Wii could give Nintendo the crown of all time combined hardware sales.
