Only a day after the pictures were leaked to Engadget, more concrete information surfaces about the v2.0 Xbox 360.
If you happen to see our original article about the leaked images of an Xbox 360 with HDMI ports on the back and talk of a new 120gig hard drive, then your in for a treat. It seems as though we now have video proof of the new unit as well as loose lips from Mercury News.
First off, Xbox-Scene was able to get high resolution shots of the new system, as well as some one on one time with the development unit. How they pulled this off we'll never know, but they do show the system running via HDMI as well as comparisons with the new mother board and HANA upscaler chip. If you remember, just this week we talked about the ANA chip currently in the Xbox 360 which only deals with analog conversion. XS seems to think the new HANA chip will deal with the digital upconversion of video as well.

If that wasn't enough, xbox-scene also went ahead and made a little video of the new system in action for your viewing pleasure. The video clearly shows the 360 running off HDMI and does a great job at thwarting off any claims of a "fake" production.
Unfortunately the video does not show the hard drive size, and we still do not know if all these new items will be bundled into one uber premium unit, but the proof is in the pudding.
If that somehow wasn't enough for you, Dean T. of the Mercury News "accidentally" let some news slip of Microsoft's plans to announce improved Xbox 360s with 120GB hard drives and HDMI ports at CES in the coming days. Not only that, but he goes on to provide information that the new 360 will also double as an IPTV set top box with multiple picture-in-picture, broadcast shows, video on demand, and DVR functionality.
If all this is true, then 360 may stand on top of the hill for a long while to come. Taking the HDMI wind out of Sony's sails is quite a blow. Add that to an already successful video download area and we just may have a new king of consoles on our hands. The real question then becomes, what happens to all the poor saps (like me) who already have an Xbox 360?
