New Xbox 360 On The Way?

If Engadget is to believed, it looks like Microsoft has a big announcement for CES... Remember all those pictures floating around the net about a 120GB hard drive, circuit boards with an HDMI port and the new 65nm cooler running processors? You may ask yourself what happened to those rumored upgrades to our beloved system.

Well apparently there’s a new Xbox 360 on the way. Engadget has obtained a picture of Zephyr AKA Xbox 360 v2.0. The picture clearly shows the integrated HDMI cable port on the back which looks very similar to that leaked circuit board picture we saw around summer last year. The picture does not show the hard drive, but 120 GB SATA laptop drives have been available for some time now, so it’s not a stretch to believe this could also be part of the package. Lastly the processors have been confirmed by Microsoft officially when that story broke some eight months ago. Originally those new 65nm processors were to be in systems for the holidays but Microsoft announced they were being delayed until early this year.

All in all it looks like this new Xbox 360 v2.0 is a great evolutionary upgrade. Where does that leave the early adopters though? I imagine it leaves us spending another $399.99 for the newer box and trying to offload the old one on eBay. Does this new package have enough to make you want to spend another $400? The new processors shouldn’t be any faster, they’re just suppose to be cooler running. This will lead to less heat related problems. The 120 GB hard drive you will be able to buy after market for sure, probably at a $99 or $120 price tag. The HDMI port I would imagine will be the biggest draw for current people to buy Zephyr.

What do you think? Is Zephyr worth the cash?
