I personally love multi player games. At this point in my life, I find that every game I choose to buy must have a great mulit player aspect to it or I wont even give it a 5 min review. I try to play games like F.E.A.R and DOOM 3 in single player, but I'm always wishing that I can share it with a buddy or an enemy. In the end this love of the online is what stands in my way when choosing any console or PC game. Finally Nintendo has decided to step up to the plate with the launch of their new Online Wifi service at NintendoWifi.com and my gaming addictions has been feed yet again.
If you haven't seen the site, or don't even own a Nintendo DS then you could be missing out. Even before the launch of their WiFi titles, Nintendo has created an area where all gamers can log on, check stat, and review leader boards from a central location. This is perfect for people who don't want to check multiple developers sites for their game info. Not to mention the site it self is quite nice with tons of info on getting your DS online.
So what about the titles? Well this is truly where the DS shines. Sure multiplayer makes a game more fun, but if the game is horrible, then most likely the multiplayer will only make it mediocre. Luckily Nintendo just happens to make some of the best 1st party games on the planet. If you ever owned a Nintendo 64, you will remember Mario Cart. Well all that racing fun is back and looks to be a hit before anyone has put their hands on it. Other titles like Metroid Prime Hunters, should sooth those FPS jitters on any road trip.
And what about road trips? Well that's the best part. McDonald's, a tiny little burger joint, has been kind enough to hook up all its customers with FREE WIFI access for DS users. Since there are more McDonald's then people in the world, finding a hot spot should be easy. If that is still to hard for you, NintendoWiFI.com has a hotspot finder for any road trip planner. Simply type in your Zip code and the site will spit out the number of WiFi McDonald's in your area. I tested my own and found 14 in a 10 mile radius! Now that's a hot spot!
But the best hot spot is at home. No longer will you be tied to your couch or computer desk when playing. Is nature calling? Don't let it tell you to stop gaming. Just say no! Bring that DS right into the powder room and finish the race. As sick as it sounds, the mobility feature alone could give my Xbox 360 a run for its money. Cause in the end, its not about graphics or features. It's about gameplay and fun factor. Nintendo has always been able to deliver this with its lineup, just without the benefit of online play. Those days are over!
