Nintendo Wii: March Sales Winner

NPD Group releases sales figures for March and Nintendo is on top yet again, will it ever stop?
"Putting 259,000 Wii game consoles into North American homes during March stamps Nintendo king of the current generation consoles sales. Given that Nintendo still struggles to get stock on shelves in the face of demand, this is a great result for the Japanese gaming giant."
How did the competing consoles do?
  • Microsoft Xbox 360: 199,000 units sold.
  • Sony PlayStation 3: 130,000 units sold.
Microsoft didn't do too bad considering the year head start, Sony could have posted some bigger figures if they want to try to hold anymore exclusives.

Hand held market?
  • Nintendo DS: 508,000 units sold.
  • Sony PSP: 180,000 units sold.
The PSP isn't doing too bad considering the uphill battle it has against the dominating hand held device.

Overall, impressive numbers? The Nintendo Wii is still extremely hard to find in stores, do to the massive amount of sales and demand while Nintendo says their production levels are at a maximum - they're doing all they can.

While PS3 numbers are relatively unimpressive, it could lead them to lose more exclusive titles to Microsoft's Xbox 360. As for Nintendo, third-party developers need to get in on that action. With so many consoles in the market one cannot sit idle and watch a few hit games being torn apart by consumers - bring your games to the largest audience you can. Right now, that's looking to be the Wii.
