Pent up Demand for the Wii

The online retailer Amazon sells out of Wii pre-orders in a single day. What?

For most of us the Wii is still "slide-ware" given we've not touched the thing and the best we've seen are pre-rendered version of what the console will look like and a few flashy videos from the past E3 expo. So what's all this hype?

What is causing the mad frenzy of customers to draw to this yet-to-be console like moths to a flame? Is it Nintendo marketing? Is it the lack of news about the new console that has peaked curiosity? Just pure hype? Or does everyone want to try the new controller?

The product is supposed to be cool, industry analysts are saying the Wii will sell more then predicted by Nintendo and customers are talking about how cool it is going to be.

Oddly enough, Nintendo has made it clear that the box will not be as graphically powerful as any of the other next-generation consoles but people do not seem to care. It seems hard to believe that all these sell-out pre-orders and demand are all the voices of Nintendo "fanboys" (considering they probably lost a few "fanboys" with the GameCubes minimal game selection).
