A reporter at GamePro managed to get a sneak peak of a running PlayStation 3 at a "development studio"
The reporter said it was silent! As in, you'd think it was powered off. The power supply, unlike the Xbox 360 is internal to the system. He could hear no fan noise. As a side note, he said the system was "shiny and sleek (just like Darth Vader's Helment)."
His biggest surprise, of course, was the internal power supply. This is a big deal because these new systems run HOT and putting the power supply in the chassis with the video card and CPU(s) can be death for your system.
However, the PS3 apparently can take on this challenge without worry. Of course, the room could have been -50 degrees Fahrenheit but I don't know any development groups that like to work in sub-arctic temperatures...
