Many Internet users believe blogs are overrated, often inaccurate and are too opinionated. On occasion they often shed a bit of light or give you an idea of things to come.
Insomniac's lead multiplayer developer says they're working on an upcoming patch to fix multiplayer issues. He says:
"I can't yet talk about all the things we've changed, but I really think that people will be very pleased to see how responsive this is to some concerns that have come out since we went live.
We've addressed a few key balance issues and put a big focus on making it possible to more effectively use a variety of strategic and team-based tactics in the game. I'm very excited to see how people like the change when it releases. That should happen very soon, so stay tuned."
The other issue with blogging... important people blog but often leave out critical information. For instance, what is being fixed? Apparently they're fixing community concerns but won't talk about what those concerns really are. That's unfortunately, but for gamers that happen to have a Sony PlayStation 3 and the hottest game for the console, Resistance, a patch is coming.
The biggest patch topic for games released on consoles seems to revolve around the networking and multiplayer. Almost all hot products are released with a flawed multiplayer option, some user-interface issues while others simply do not work. Even the Sony PlayStation 3 had a firmware update to enable most of the networking features.
It seems over half the released titles on the Xbox 360 have had network patches for "lag," "scalability" or "cheating" days after the title hits the shelves. Someday we may see a game arrive that doesn't require a hot fix for its multiplayer.
