The first 100 gamers to purchase a PS3 at the London launch event were handed free 46-inch HDTV's with their new console. Yes, the HDTV's probably were worth more than the PS3 itself, and cost them over over £250,000 ($490,450) for this publicity stunt.
Those gamers also were given cab rides home with their new product and HDTV. One 17-year old fan apparently waited 36 hours for this launch and managed the be first in line.
Okay, free HDTVs for the first 100 line waiters and not a single gunshot? No angry mobs of gamers trying to cut in line to get their free HD product "bundles"!? Where is the drive, determination and unyielding focus!? Where is the emotion and willingness to die for your console?
Then again, maybe its us North American gamers that just don't know when to quit (doing stupid stuff). Thankfully most gamers we know didn't go to a PS3 event armed like a GTA thug. Although, many of us might not have gone at all to a PS3 launch event...
