It seems many retail outlets are marking Wii's third-party titles at $49.99 over the standard $59.99 price for next-generation games. Interesting...
BestBuy is offering Wii launch titles for $49.99 on their website today (pre-order of course). Is this the standard pricing for 3rd party Wii titles?
Amazon also has Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids marked to $49.99 for the Wii. However, EBGames currently lists titles at the stock $59.99 price tag. This isn't that surprising considering EBGames also sells you a pre-owned game for $3.00 less than the original price. GOT PROFIT MARGIN?
If this becomes a standard rule, which wouldn't be surprising given the rumored price point(s) for the Wii console itself, it would increase sales. That additional $10.00 can be used to buy accessories for the console itself, or a sale on a Nintendo DS game. Nobody likes to pay next-generation prices for a game that doesn't fit the next-generation graphic eye candy.
This isn't to say that the quality in the games will not be there, but costs for games have already risen to crazy levels and its nice to see someone being realistic about the prices.
Most retailers are gonig to push the game cost up 25% from the price they paid, and I highly doubt BestBuy and Amazon are ready to practically lose money on a game if they didn't get it cheaper themselves. Unless they're just trying to fool the consumer, the distributors are reflecting costs at a lower price because the 3rd party companies are suggesting a lower cost. Good move. Other next-generation games should follow this rule, similar to Table Tennis on the Xbox 360.
