Wii Gains Traction

The Nintendo Wii, also known as "The underdog," seems to be making a great deal of sales and hype weeks after its initial release...

Gamers, hardcore and casual, are talking about the Nintendo Wii and how much fun they're having with it. Using key phrases like "awesome," "addicting," "enjoyable" with intense enthusiasm.

Some analysts are pondering the question "Is Nintendo battling itself?" when talking about Nintendo DS sales and Nintendo Wii sales. Is it possible for the two highly requested products to be battling themselves for most top dog status?

Apparently, the Wii is doubling the attach rate (additional games/accessory sales) of its Sony PlayStation 3 competitor in Japan. Nintendo is showing a 1.8 attach rate while Sony is holding a 0.98 attach rate. Why? Many gamers are putting the PlayStation 3 on eBay - they don't need games and accessories.

Unfortunately for some, getting the accessories for the Nintendo Wii can be a challenge. Finding an additional Wii-Mote to game with friends is a treasure hunt and some popular games like Zelda: Twilight Princess are sold out more than in stock.

Is there a downfall to the Nintendo sales figures? According to some Japanese journalists and analysts the product is selling like wild fire along with its top games: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Odoru Made in Wario, Red Steel, Elebits and many others. The first party game titles are on fire and everyone wants them. However, almost all the hot titles are first party with a scarce amount of third party hits.

The third party titles are battling against the big hits created by Nintendo. Does this mean the future of the Wii lies in first party domination with third parties looking elsewhere for hit games? Or will the third parties kick it up a notch and make addictive high quality Wii games that can "beat" it's direct first party competition?

It would be a shame to have another console lacking third party titles simply because the first party titles are "better."

Most of us have yet to meet a gamer that has played the Nintendo Wii and was disappointed. Many comments like "I'm now a fanboy, I played a demo at (insert store here)" are piling up. Yet some of us still sit here without a Nintendo Wii to give our own assessment!
