Nintendo of Canada's VP and GM Ron Bertram has officially announced the Wii North American launch quantity in an interview with Mackenzie Financial.
The Wii will launch with 1 Million units for North America for the November 19th launch. That is twice the number of Xbox 360's (500,000) that were available and ~2.5x (400,000) more units than Sony will have for the November 17th PS3 launch.
The launch price wil be $279.95 Canadian which will include the Wii, one wireless controller, one 'nunchuck' and the Wii Sports bundle to get you familiar with how to use the new controller system. Nintendo promises 30 games by December 31st which includes The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess at launch. Retail games will have an MSRP of $59.99 which I find surprising since visually they won't be of the quality we'll see on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Graphics are where the development dollars go, so what is the justification for Wii games to be 60 bucks?
The launch will be interesting to witness since the PS3 will launch two days earlier. I wonder how many people are planning on camping out in front of big box stores Thursday through Sunday to get both PS3 and Wii for quick turnover on eBay.
