Aussie-Nintendo.com sat down with members of the Wii development team to discuss the currently being worked on Wii Message Board system...
Nintendo envisions this feature something that the entire family can utilize.
The Wii Message Board is a console-wide feature which will have date sorting and calendar integration on the local console. Members in the family can use the Wii as a family calendar. Since the calendar will interact with games, while you're playing a game you may get a pop-up reminding you of something on the calendar, a task or event or appointment. We know how easy it is to get lost in games and totally loose track of time. So now Mom can remind Timmy to put dinner in the oven at 5 so it's a good way done when she gets home.
When the Wii is connected to the Internet, the Message Board features get expanded. Friends can exchange ID tags with each other similar to the DS method. Once your friends are registered with your Wii, Message Board will communicate with them. For example if you buy a new game, the Wii will ask you if you'd like to let your friends know and if you do, the Wii will update your friends Message Board letting them know you have a new game. Message Board will also allow players to exchange E-Mail, game data and screen shots with each other. There is also a plan to allow Wii to Mobile Phone SMS/MMS communications.
The Message Board is a work in progress, Nintendo's trying to keep it simple and add features that gamers can really have fun with. They didn't say how much will be ready for launch but I expect whatever is available will evolve over time like we've seen on other systems.
