Well, over 80% of Xbox Live members download content from the Xbox Live Marketplace. What content? Almost 70% of Xbox Live members download music videos, movie trailors and game trailors.
What about the arcade titles? Over 65% of the Xbox Live members have downloaded an Arcade title, and Xbox Live has seen over 8 million total downloads in its arcade since the launch!

What does that mean to Sony and Nintendo? It seems that Microsoft has a highly successful working model for console network connectivity.
Nintendo has announced that its networking will be "free of charge," but that alone changes the playing field and adds a new variable into the equation. Does that prove to help or hinder Nintendo? It is yet to be seen but there is something to be said for a paid subscription to a service. Users have a specific expectation on servicability, reliability and a central location for all the goods.
Will the Wii's free access give you all the benefits of Marketplace? Or will they be using ads to support their infrastructure? After all, you can give advertisers a good estimate of "eyes" on the content based on console sales figures.
Duplication is the best form of flattery, let us wait and see how close Microsoft's competitors are to duplicating XBL.
