Apparently Microsoft did not learn anything from their previous shortage problems with the original Xbox. Reports are emerging that Xbox 360 is in short supply for pre-sale.

OK, so is this a surprise? Yes and no. Yes, I am surprised that Microsoft has put a limit on pre-sales. We're, what is it? four or five months away from release and already the thing is in short supply? Why set a limit on pre-sales? If people want to shell out their money early, let them. No, I am not surprised that there is a supply problem, everyone knows that Xbox 360 will be very popular. Microsoft (and Sony) will have more buyers than boxes at launch, does anyone doubt that?
Probably not. Let's be serious for a minute. November 2005 is supposedly when we get our hands on the new Xbox. Yet, here we are five months away from launch and we already know that there will not be enough to go round. What the hell!?
I sincerely hope that this is just scare tactics by game retailers looking to drive more pre-sales and not a real problem.
