Xbox 360 Marketplace Content Unveiled!

That's right, MS has just unveiled their plans for downloadable content on the Xbox 360 for it's launch. I must say that everyone here at 2o2p is impressed. Not only is Xbox 360 going to have the content ready for you on Nov. 22nd, but it looks as though there is a truck load of it. How much is a truck load? Well, MS has confirmed that over 400 types of downloadable content will be will be ready and available at launch! This amount includes everything from Free game demos, music videos, movie trailers, and pay downloads for games and Xbox Live Arcade. Wow. The most notable downloads in my opinion are that of the playable game demos. Most demos are from the launch line up and include FIFA Soccer 06 Road to the 2006 FIFA World Cup (Electronic Arts), Kameo: Elements of Power (Microsoft Game Studios), Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie (Ubisoft), NBA LIVE 06 (Electronic Arts), Need for Speed Most Wanted (Electronic Arts). Not bad for a first time owner who just wants to get his feet wet. Seems like a perfect solution for those who feel the launch line up is a little lack luster. You can still play your Halo 2 in HD glory while you try out the new games.

Also on the list are some pretty cool HD movie trailers for Aeon Flux as well as HD music videos from bands like Audio Slave. If MS keeps this up, it would be really cool to check out all the upcoming theater releases right in my own living room in HD.

The rest of the downloads will most likly fall into the Microsoft Points system. These downloads will require Market Place points which customers can purchase via point card worth 1600 Points for an MSRP of $19.99, and consumers can buy via the Xbox Live Dashboard in 500 Point increments. Other points can be earned in the upcoming games for 360 as well.

Most of the points based content at launch will revolve around the Xbox Arcade. Purchase Points range from 400 to 800 points or $5 to $10 dollars. These games include Bankshot Billiards 2 (pixelStorm, Inc.), Bejeweled 2 (Popcap Games), Gauntlet (Midway Home Entertainment), Geometry Wars Retro Evolved (Bizarre Creations), Hardwood Backgammon (Silver Creek Entertainment), Hardwood Hearts (Silver Creek Entertainment), Hardwood Spades (Silver Creek Entertainment), free title Hexic HD (Microsoft Game Studios), Joust (Midway Home Entertainment), Mutant Storm Reloaded (PomPom Games), Outpost Kaloki (Wahoo Studios), Robotron 2084 (Midway Home Entertainment), Smash TV (Midway Home Entertainment), Wik & The Fable of Souls (Reflexive Entertainment), and Zuma (Popcap Games).

It seems to me that MS is really think about downloadable content as an even better way to push its Xbox Live service and community. I for one am excited to try out all the demo's and HD movie trailers. Seems to me that this is just another reason to buy an Xbox 360 even if the launch titles are just OK.
