Game Releases- Week of June 4, 2012

On the week of E3, many gaming companies must be taking a break from releasing new games to plug games they’ll eventually be releasing in the future. Unfortunately this week is quite vacant with games. While low in volume, there are quite a few interesting titles and quite possibly the most deserving game for the “What Were They Smoking?!” Award.

Pulse’s Pick of the Week- Inversion (PS3, PC, XBOX360) Third person shooter with a twist, the ability to manipulate gravity. The main character Davis Russel teams up with his cop partner against an enemy invasion. Environments are destructible, as well as the ability to drop portions of the environment upon your enemy. Game includes co-op play and competitive multiplayer [$59.99]

Multiplatform Releases

Madagascar 3: The Video Game (PS3, XBOX360, Wii, Vita, 3DS) Yet again, another children’s video game based on the movie. This time they are in a circus, and as with many of these kid’s games, there are a ton of mini games to play. One cool feature is ability to play with others in co-op play and drop in and out at any time. While I generally hate these kind of games, this one actually looks like it would be a bit of fun. [$39.95 for PS3, XBOX360, $29.95 Wii, Vita, DS]

Arcade and DLC Releases

Art of Balance Touch (3DS eShop) Puzzle game where the objective is to stack the objects in a formation in which they will not fall over. Also includes some objects that alter gravity. [$6.99]

Bang Bang Racing (PS3, PC, XBOX360) Overhead style racing game that features 9 reversible circuits and 20 vehicles. Also includes four player multiplayer races and destructible obstacles. [$9.99]

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (PS3, XBOX360) Revised version of the Virtua Fighter 5 arcade. Includes 19 playable characters with new costumes. Online multiplayer will also be available. [$14.99]

While this week was a very uneventful week of releases, this week’s What Were They Smoking?! Award clearly defines the reason why this award was created. This week’s award is unanimously given to The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats for PC (*shaking head in disbelief*). As if The Sims did not have enough ridiculous games of content, they came up with this gem. This game features items inspired from Katy Perry, from clothing to hairstyles to environments and furniture. Items include a cupcake guitar, a banana split couch and a waffle cone picnic table. Three new venues include Patty’s Natural Baths, Bonbon Lawn Park and Cake Pleasure Dome. No words can express how deserving this game is for this award. [$29.99]
