Game Releases: Week of March 26

Welcome to the last week of March! Last week was pretty heavy in the zombie category and those haters out there will be very pleased to know this week is zombie free. Unfortunately, those creators of combat racing games all convened and decided to release all of their games this week, so my apologies for the racing flood that you are about to undergo.

And without any further delay, here are the releases for this week:

Multiplatform Releases

Ridge Racer Unbounded (PS3, 360) - The Ridge Racer series focuses on destruction as you can wreck your opponents as well as parts of the environment to create shortcuts. Another addition allows users to create their own maps to share and race against online.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 (PS3, 360) - Hmmm... Tiger Woods just won his first PGA Tour event this weekend since 2009. I think it was nothing more than a publicity stunt to advertise his new game this year! This year’s version includes a new swing mechanic, where you can modify everything about the swing- from the approach, tempo, swing plane, and power. Most exciting thing about this year’s version is Kinect support. It uses your actual body movement to create your swing as well as voice commands for club selection.

xbox XBOX 360 Releases

Capcom Digital Collection - Yet another mashup of Capcom games. This time, it's a selection of eight games previously available from XBox Live Arcade. Games include: 1942:Joint Strike, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, Final Fight Double Impact, Flock!, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, Super Puzzle Fighter II HD Turbo Remix, Street Fighter II HD Turbo Remix, and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3.

Country Dance All Stars - This Kinect dancing game features 35 country songs for you to get your line dancing groove on. There are bonus places for some good ‘ole fashioned sing-a-longs. This game is not for those that want to be taught how to dougie.

pc PC Releases

Gas Guzzlers Combat Carnage - Gaming company Gamepires makes its debut with this combat racing game. Imagine the cars of Forza with rockets on them and there you have it.

Playstation Vita Releases

Supremacy MMA: Restricted - Vita’s first attempt at Mixed Martial Arts fighting. This MMA release focuses more on the amateur circuit. Gamers can choose between traditional controls, or touch based. Game also features camera support so you can put your ugly mug on a fighter and watch your face get beaten to a pulp. Multiplayer support is also available.

3ds Nintendo 3DS Releases

Myst - Once again, another game that really did not need to be remade, but was. Apparently nothing was remade in this version, except it’s in 3D.

arcade Arcade Releases & DLC

Gears of War 3: Forces of Nature (XBOX DLC)- Content includes three new battlefields (Cove, Aftermath, Artillery), two remastered battlefields (Jacinto and Raven Down), four character models, seven weapon skins, and ten new achievements.

South Park Tenorman’s Revenge (XBOX Live Arcade)- Platformer based on the South Park series. Fight against bully Scott Tenorman and his army of Ginger robots. Locations include Hell, Tynacorp, and the Poo-Choo Express. You also get to fight manbearpig!

Wheels of Destruction: World Tour (PSN)-. This combat car game takes place during in a post-Apocalypse where vehicles must have been spared, so they could battle to the death. You can compete in either deathmatch or capture-the-flag. No more racing combat games this week... please!!!!

Wrecked: Revenge Revisited(XBOX Live Arcade)- Ugh..Yes, ANOTHER car racing combat game. This game is a successor to the 2004 game Mashed. Game includes online multiplayer and co-op. Fourteen weapons and five air strikes are included.

One last thing...

This week a game inspired me to create a new addition to the Weekly Releases called the “What Were They Smoking?" Game of the Week (pending a better name for this "honor"). This award will be given to the game with the most ridiculous concept that is gracing the gaming world with its presence.  And this week it is a doozy. The inaugural award goes to...

Gettysburg: Armored Warfare for the PC. This starts off with a simple idea, the Civil War. Now, imagine that futuristic weapons, armor and vehicles have gone back in time. There is something not right about seeing a Union/Confederate soldier with a gatling gun attached to him. Other soldiers are wearing futuristic helmets with Mass-Effect style combat rifles. Aside from the ridiculous story, it is a real time strategy game combined with third person shooter. At any time in the game, you can select a specific unit and control that one unit.

And those are the game releases for the week. Happy Gaming 2old2play!!
