GameFly Asking Subscribers for More Money

It just got a little more expensive to rent games online with the market leader GameFly.

GameFly has just announced a $1 increase to all subscribers beginning Monday, June 18th. It doesn’t matter if you’re a new or existing customer, everyone is being hit with this increase. It’s usually standard practice that older subscribers are somewhat immune to price increases on these types of services but unfortunately that is not the case with GameFly.

A few months ago GameFly opened their new East Coast distribution center to meet the demands of gamers in the East. It was a common complaint from those gamers that it took way to long to swap their discs with GameFly because of the mail travel time from the East Coast to the West Coast and then back again. This $1 increase is no doubt in response to their rising operations costs and the increased price of next generation games.

To sum up the new GameFly rates if you’re a new or existing customer, they will be:

  • One game out : $15.95
  • Two games out : $22.95
  • Three games out: $28.95
  • Four games out : 36.95

There will also be new billing options available that can give subscribers a discount. Subscribers will be able to pre-pay for three, six or twelve months of service at a reduced rate.

For those who don’t rely on a rental service for their games and just play ‘throw away’ games via rentals, GamezNFlix still has their 'one game out' service for $8.99 / month. Service is sometimes slow, but if you play rentals between retail releases, it’s cheap and well worth the savings of buying a retail game you might only play for a week.
