Today we sit here with Dan Eriksson / Producer at Grin from the Bionic Commando team. From all the news and including your E3 preview this game looking better each day.
What type of engine is the game running on? Also what are some of the cool features of this engine that we will see when playing the game?
Bionic Commando is running on Grin’s proprietary engine called The Diesel Engine. The engine is using a deferred renderer which allows us to have an almost unlimited amount of dynamic lights, other features you will see when playing are ambient occlusion post effect, an advanced depth of field, soft particles and much more.
How hard was it to remake this classic and keep the original ideas in play?
It’s always a challenge to please fans of a known game but still evolve it to today’s standards of games. We have taken a 2D platform game and transformed it into a 3D action adventure with huge levels. The biggest challenge was of course to nail the swing feature; it had to feel natural to swing around in the game.
Other than the arm swing or grapple with the arm what other cool features will we be able to see in game?
Thanks to your bionic arm you will be able to throw cars and big rocks through the air. One moment a car may be a place where you take cover from enemy fire, but the next moment you hurl it towards the enemy and use it as a weapon.
When making this game were there any moments that the team wanted to put in a jaw dropping moment that you would not forget?
There are several areas in the game where you will get that jaw dropping wow moment, but that’s something the players will have to experience themselves.
In the single player campaign could you give us a preview of a few of your achievements and how they came about?
No comments on achievements yet.
With announcing a 10 person Multi-Player can you let us know any modes that you might have? Also will this have a private lobby system for people who just want to play with friends?
Of course we have the standard death match mode, but also a few more modes that will be announced at a later time. You can invite your friends to play with over Xbox Live.
On the character selection in Multi player Mode. How will this work and can you give us a glimpse of another playable character other than Radd?
In multiplayer you don’t play as Nathan Spencer (Radd), you play as a soldier trying out a new prototype bionic arm.
Will we see tie-ins from the XBLA Bionic Commando Rearmed and Bionic Commando for the Xbox 360?
There will be tie-ins from Bionic Commando Rearmed, but I can’t tell you right now what it is.
Thank you for taking your time to sit down with us for a few questions. Look forward to your up coming releases and continue to develop some great titles.
