Lots of News from Epic Games

Epic is certainly all over the news headlines today with a bunch of new tidbit from their franchise games. They’re certainly making some noise to help drum up their two mega launches this year on Xbox 360; Unreal Tournament 3 and Gears of War 2.

Gears Of War

Gears of War 2’s associate producer Tanya Jessen has told Shacknews that there will be no Gears of War 2 demo ahead of the game release. Jessen says they’re focused on getting the retail product finished on time and diverting resources to create a demo would hurt their development time line. We imagine that since Gears of War 1 sold 5 million + copies world wide, a demo really isn’t necessary. If you own an Xbox 360 and don’t know anything about Gears of War, you must be living under a rock.

Mark Rein has been dropping hints to Eurogamer about a ‘special treat’ Gears of War 2 fans will find on the disc of the upcoming Unreal Tournament III release. He wouldn’t get any more specific than that but does go on to say that Gears of War 2 is a much improved version over the original. We should hope so.

Unreal Tournament 3

Unreal Tournament 3’s long delay from being released on the Xbox 360 will be rectified this ‘summer’ when it finally releases on Xbox. The Xbox 360 version will feature two exclusive characters, five exclusive multiplayer maps and a split screen co-op mode as well as online campaign co-op. You may be asking yourself does this mean the user created content issue has been fixed? The answer is no it has not, Microsoft hasn’t yielded to Epic yet on this front. However, UT3 for Xbox360 will feature all the downloadable content Epic has available for UT3 on the other platforms.

Where's The Wii?

With Epic now releasing games on PC, PS3 and Xbox360 some Wii fans might ask where’s the love? Mike Capps, president of Epic Games has gone on record as saying that Epic will NEVER develop for the Wii. Epic games is about moving forward not backward and for them it’s all about what can be done on the console, not about the install base. Epic considers the Wii a virus, something you buy and play for two months and then never play again. But in that time you show it to other friends who think it’s cool, they buy one, play it for two months and never play it again. But during that time, they’ve shown other friends and the cycle continues. You just have to love how arrogant Epic Games is don’t ya?
