New Releases: Week of May 13th, 2013

Phew! The day after Mother’s Day. Time to just relax. Thankfully this is another slow week in game releases and gives me time to not only catch up a little bit but also catch my breath from the weekend.

Breathe in......Breathe out....aaah.  That’s better. Now let us get to the reason we’re here!

Metro: Last Light
It’s the future (year 2034) and, from the book of totally didn’t see it coming, a nuclear war devastated our planet. I believe it actually happened in a timeline previous to Metro 2033 so one should expect to see it in that games direct sequel-Metro: Last Light. If you are familiar with the previous game then you already know Metro: Last Light is a horror/survival/FPS based in the underground subway tunnels of the once proud Russian capital of Moscow. In those tunnels are all means of mutants wanting a piece of your flesh as well as other survivors aligned to warring factions from different stations. It is up to you to prevent not only a civil war but even further destruction of mankind. I wish I could add sound effects because that last sentence screamed for a DUHN DUHN DUUUUUUHHHHNN! Metro: Last Light drops on PC/PS3 & XBox on May 14th

DUST 514
This game intrigues me. If you are a follower of PC gaming you probably heard of Eve Online - a space themed MMO that basically lets its players take full control of the universe and the economy. There were some stellar uprisings, takedowns as well as complete financial destruction of clans in that game. Some took months, if not years, to plan, execute and accomplish. So what does that have to do with DUST 514? Not only do they share a developer (CCP) but these two games share the same world. I know what you’re thinking but these two games actually do “share” the world. DUST 514 is a free to play FPS MMO based in the EVE Online world that affords its players a game with real time consequences. While fighting for your faction you actually fight battles that affect the outcome of ongoing EVE Online conflicts. Like I said...intrigued. DUST 514 drops on the PS3 on May 14th.

The Starship Damrey
Those of you old enough to remember System Shock 2 may find The Starship Damrey (Nintendo eShop) title for the 3DS a bit familiar. That is not a bad thing as from what I read The Starship Damrey features a great premise and solid gameplay. On May 16th wake up and find out!

It’s another light week for new games. In an effort to help round things out I am going to throw some eagerly anticipated DLC into the mix.

PC & PS3

Black Ops II-Uprising
Need I say more?

XBox & PS3

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - Blade Wolf
The trailer below is Japanese but that doesn’t stop it from looking cool! This DLC features  LQ-84i’s backstory and its transformation into Blade Wolf. Available on May 14th for XBox and May 15th on the PS3.

Still a few tumbleweeds blowing through the new release landscape. With E3 less than a month away and the new XBox announcement next week, we may start to see something a little more interesting.
