It looks like terrorism attacks aren’t limited to the real world, ABC’s virtual destination in Second Life was the recent victim of an inter-world cyber ‘nuke’
ABC’s virtual island in Second Life currently holds the number three spot for the most visited destinations in Second Life with six million members. ABC Island featured popular activities such as live screenings, concerts, ABC audio and video programming, an underground music club and opportunities to design and showcase your own virtual objects including eco friendly houses.
On Tuesday, ABC Island was bombed into a “cratered mess”. Only a digital transmission tower remained standing which cost ABC tens of thousands of real dollars to create.
Second Life has spent several hours repairing ABC Island back to it’s former self. Just like in real life, things can be rebuilt. Second Life believes there is a significant enough digital trail to track down the person or persons responsible for this cyber bombing. Early speculation is that the attack could have been from another commercial rival trying to uproot ABC from the number three tourism spot. Logos from sports brands like Nike and Puma were found around the disaster.
