Last year, we got word the Halo movie was put on hold because a few partners (read, those with money) kinda lost interest. The lost interest may be based simply on the video game to to movie track record... it's not good.
Some movies did okay, Mortal Kombat (1995) did "okay" from video game to movie re-makes but it wasn't a Titanic or Forest Gump that's for sure! What about Pokemon: The First Movie (1999) , Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)?
Movie studios still remember Double Dragon (1994), Street Fighter (1994) and many others. The chances of success don't seem to be very high.
But it has Peter Jackson! The established director, Neill Blomkamp, was signed on to direct this movie to success.
As far as Jackson, he and partner Fran Walsh would be involved again in "Halo" only if Blomkamp is the director. "We wouldn't want to do it with anybody else. It'll be Neill's call."
If movie studios find this title too risky and the Halo 3 hype doesn't change their mind, Microsoft is going to need to drop down some real cash to bring this film to theater's. Would they invest their own money or do they have the same shaky perception of failure as well?
