Battlefield 2 Modern Combat Review

After 5 months of waiting for this game, another 4 months of playing "Backlash", online in a demo. After forming a clan based on this game weeks before it's release. I'd have to say that anticipation was at an all time high back on the 25th. And it was worth every minute of it. Wow, what about this game isn't attractive? The single player side is wrought with variety. Side missions only help to improve your skills on the central storyline. You are encouraged to try new combat roles in the game by "hotswapping" or moving from one soldier to the next by the push of a button. You may be in the middle of a firefight with Chinese Nationalists when a tank comes rolling towards you, bent on your destruction. So you swap to the Engineer to pop off a anti-tank rocket from a rooftop as it goes by. Then switch to a Sniper in a treeline to laser engage a chopper about to drop off more enemy troops. You can drive 30 vehicles, including choppers and boats. This is just the single player, and in all honesty, if it stopped there I would rent it.

But it doesn't, This game was designed as a multiplayer entity. Not exclusively, as the singleplayer is in itself a whole game, but this baby is designed to put all the skills you've learned to good use here. 13 original maps, some small, some large. Varied modes of gameplay, CTF and Assault among them. But the sheer difference in gameplay compared to other FPS's is amazing. In this game teamwork and communication is crucial. This is the real deal, any closer and you'd be cleaning your M-16A2 with solvent. BF:2 is what tactical shooters are meant to be, end of statement.

You gain rank through points earned in a match. You complete certain tasks, like killing 4 enemies using only 1 (30) round clip to earn a medal. Then they calculate how many points you earned in average of a 10 hour time span. The more you accomplish, the higher rank you are. Me, I'm a Master Sargent right now, (working on that next medal to rank up.) and it ain't easy, but it makes for such a gaming experience. Oh yeah, before I forget, the Battlefield 2 website has a stat tracking system that rivals Bungies. And if you think this is nothing more than a a port of the PC version, you're aim would be off...
