While I have not finished this fright fest of a game yet, I do say it is the best launch game on the Xbox360. First off the controls are on the a bit of the crappy side at first, but then I realized its not a FPS, its a more of a survival horror adventure action game. So then the controls are not bad at all, even in the FPS moments you realize, I only have 3 shots in this revolver so I can not go all MC on his ass.
Graphics - I didn't think they could get better but they do, the environments do not get repetitive, they are well laid out and planned. The textures are the best I have seen in any game to date. 720p/1080i really brings this out into the best damn looking game on the 360.
Little Graphic Touches I have noticed include Teeth getting knocked out when you really hit a guy hard with a pipe, blood that is very realistic, the bad guys are not repetitive.
The final kill you can perform on the bad guys is totally sadistic, so I LOVE THEM. They really get you into this life and death struggle.
Sound - I hate this game for the sound, AT least a couple dozen times I have jumped because I have been walking down a hall way with my pipe or board and I hear something and nothing happens... then I hear something... nothing happens, then BAM some crazed drug addicted Timmy comes through a wall and beats on me or screams or swears at me.
If you dont watch your feet you can hit a bottle, or box or what ever and hear it move, which gets scary because in the really dark areas the only light is your flashlight and and it gets very tight in some quarters.
Gameplay - The CSI part of the game with criminal forensic tools is very well done, not hard, and really helpful hints tell you what to do.
This game has a very cinematic feel, several times I felt like I was playing a movie that is part Survival Horror, Part CSI, Part Xfiles and Millennium.
A couple of times I was walking along and I would see a homeless drug addict preparing some beat down on me. Well the first time this happened I literally said "HOLY SH*T"... another drug addict guy saw him and leaped on him beating him to death. He didn't see me before he did this, so it was an easy kill to brain him with a 2x4 with bolts in it. (My favorite weapon)
Overall - This is the biggest surprise for me on the Xbox360. I bought it really because I like horror games, but came away after a few hours totally blown away by this new game play style.
Play it with the lights off, and with a good sound system (DOLBY 5.1 or better highly recommended), and watch out... this is the first game that I have really been ever tense about. FEAR was good for some jumps, Doom was well no scares at all.. but this game gets down and makes you scared of the dark, scared of what is out there just beyond what you can see.
This is by far my favorite game released for Xbox360.
