Ok, so the title is a little over board, but we did receive our new Wii straps from Nintendo as promised.
For those of you not in the know, Nintendo has come under some fire lately (mostly by chromosome deficient, accident prone humans) for shipping Wii-motes with less then sturdy straps. The stories of these accidents have recently reached a fevered pitch and have spawn such web sites as www.wiihaveaproblem.com as well as a class action lawsuit.
Being the responsible company that Nintendo is, they decided to release free upgrades to the the standard straps at no charge for its customers. All that was required was a confirmation of our Wii's serial number and we were able to receive as many as 4 new straps.
The straps arrived only 1 week after our order was placed, and they appear to be about 3 times thicker then the original cords that shipped with the unit. I would like to point out, that 2old2play has never had any issues with the original straps breaking or flying off our hands. The real issue here is the person using the strap and controller as it was intended. Never the less, Nintendo has done a great job in strengthening the straps.
Check out the pictures below to see for yourself. Clicking on the picture will take you to an ultra high resolution image so you can really see the difference (Note: It may take a while to download the image). Now if only people would actually wear the straps when they play...
If you still need to grab these new straps, head on over to the replacement site @ http://www.nintendo.com
