I am really not fond of February. It is the shortest month of the year but it ALWAYS feels like the longest. It’s a long weekend up here for some provinces so we are taking the kids skiing for the first time in forever. Here’s hoping it goes well and we can do some more of it next year!
On the gaming front there are only a couple of releases worth noting this week. Both of these titles can pull on the old soft strings in my gaming heart. Let’s take a look!
Age of Empires: Definitive Edition
Platforms: PC
Release Date: February 20th, 2018
Initially set to release back in October, MS pulled AoE back for another round of spit and polish. I actually signed up for the closed beta but I never got to actually play a game. First off the beta was all multiplayer, second everytime I tried there was no-one in the rooms to play with me. I tried setting up my own game but a guy can only play a multiplayer game alone by himself for certain amount of time before he just gets bored. My limit was 20 minutes. I am still looking forward to the actual release of AoE and I will try to get a review up for you.
Metal Gear Survive
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
Release Date: February 20th, 2018
So Metal Gear Survive tugs at my heartstrings for the wrong reasons. Besides missing Snake, this is the first Metal gear game post Kojima. While it looks to be less of a movie and more of a game, and co-op to boot, I am having a hard time rationalizing this one. If anyone else picks up Metal Gear Survive let me know how it is and whether it is truly worthy of the Metal gear nameplate
Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time
Platforms: PC, PS4
Release Date: February 20th, 2018
Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time is an anime Action-RPG that would probably be right up my 13 year old daughters alley. I really want to be a supportive dad but I cannot stand anime and it is all that she is into right now. Sigh...as much as I love them both I cannot relate to teenage girls...at….all. On the flipside my dad jokes have been falling flat lately so I am pretty sure they can’t relate to me either.
Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
Release Date: February 23rd, 2018
Here is another anime game but this one I at least knew the title of as my daughter has talked about this anime before. I am confused by the trailer as it looks like you play this game as a character that is playing in an MMO inside the game. That is getting a little too Inception-like for my tastes but at least it doesn’t have tween age witches in it! Maybe I could stomach playing Sword Art Online:Fatal Bullet with her....maybe.
