New Releases: Week of October 17th, 2021

Is anyone playing Marvel Avengers (Square Enix/Crystal Dynamics) on Xbox? I played the beta earlier this year and it was rough. Not a good time struggling with wonky controls, camera angles that were useless, some wonky hitbox/animation things were going on as well. I tried to be nice about it in my comments to them but that game should not have been released like that. I can happily say that things are much better. The game isn't perfect and Marvel Avengers feels like it wants to be Destiny 2 but Marvel and, sadly, it doesn't quite get there. That isn't to say it's not fun, I am enjoying myself and the fact it is on Game Pass means I basically get to enjoy for sorta free. I have also been getting my match 3 fix in Gems of War which I have enjoyed and thrown the odd chuckle or two out with the dialog. Hades left me a broken man and I might get back to that as I was so close to getting out of hell once and now I can barely escape Tartarus.

I am writing a small novella here because for the first time since I made the decision to not cover re-releases...that is nearly all there is this week. I did find a few new titles by some indie developers so maybe give them some love this week.

Disciples: Liberation
Release Date: October 21st, 2021
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, XSX/S

A fantasy turn based RPG  that is not a JRPG? Hmmm....I am intrigued. I watched the trailer. I am further intrigued. A single player campaign that is over 80 hours...shit...yeah I know I have probably put in over 1000 in Destiny 2 but I can get in and out in 20 minutes if I want. This could be I will play for an hour before supper and now its 3am kinda deals.

Evertried
Release Date: October 21st, 2021
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, XSX/S

So if you Google Evertried you get a lot of corny positive reinforcement posters. Evertried being a Rogue-like game, is about telling yourself you can do it, getting your ass handed to yo, rinse, repeat. Maybe you should read a few of those daily affirmation posters before you jump in. I will say that the game has an interesting mechanic in that the enemies do not move until you do so you can either rush in scythe a'blazin' or queens gambit this until the end.

Echo: Generation
Release Date: October 21st, 2021
Platforms: Xbox One, XSX/S

You got your Playmobil in my Stranger Things! That is all I could think of watching this trailer. Another turn based game but instead of medieval fantasy, Echo:Generation puts you in a small town stuck in the 80's kind of vibe. I was going to reference the fantastic Stand By Me movie but I just realized that when that movie came out the 50's were 30 years prior and now the 80's are that. Holy shit!
