According to the "2005 Essential Facts About the Computer & Video Game Industry @E3" report, we are not. As a matter of fact we are the norm, average even. While researching for a recent PR meeting I came across the above mentioned report released by ESA (Entertainment Software Association) on May 18, 2005. The report contains in depth numbers and statistics showing details like: average age of a video gamer, historical sales numbers, recent sales information, most popular games and much more. I have included some of the statistical highlights of the report below:
1. "Because they are asked to."
2. "It's a good opportunity to socialize with the child."
3. "It's fun for the entire family."
4. "It's a good opportunity to monitor game content."
This report and others like state one thing clearly: if market trends continue in the future as they have in the past, the average age of video gamers will steadily increase.
These numbers are an affirmation of what we all already knew: we are not 2old2play, nor will we ever be. Although Xbox Live is over run with young people, they are the minority. Our jobs here at 2old2play.com, is to bring the majority to all multiplayer systems and let the average gamer find a home with us.
