It's important to understand why we are all here on 2old2play. It is important to realize what we belong to and why we're still here.
The 2old2play community is a country club atmosphere where gamers get together to game and interact socially. Some of us are probably more social than gamers - that's cool. The one thing that each of us has in common is 2old2play.com
Every one of us are individuals that have our own goals, own lives and own personal experiences. The fact that we can all get along as well as we do shows our maturity and positive impact we make on everyone around us. We rock and we want everyone to know it.
It should be understood that our community is growing and there will be times when we signup some "bad eggs" or people that do not align with the sites goals. That's understandable; considering we're 5,000 plus members with only a handful of obvious ban hammer droppings, we're not doing too badly.
We should stop once and awhile and realize just what we have and just how it will change directions as we grow bigger. Our growth rate is fairly significant but we continue to have the same goals: game with our peers and have fun. That's the most important aspect of 2old2play aside from all our publicity, demographics, and media.
I would also urge everyone to maintain pride in our community but to also keep an open mind to those around you. For instance, there have been a few occasions where people have banned together to internally "flame" our competition. I urge you to resist these temptations because it is not really healthy and provides very little value. Understanding that many people do not realize the potential in 2old2play is fine, but why put them down? What have they done to us?
We should be the bigger community and give them a nod for their efforts even though we feel our site is better. To grow as a community means recognizing why we're growing - not recognizing why other sites "suck." Some of our future members may be younger than twenty-five but willing to join our site when they come of age. So let us set a good example for the young padawans that will become full fledged members in the months to come.
There are many reasons to internally realize just how great our community has become. We have dozens of active members that work towards promoting the 2old2play brand with little to no pay (read: no pay). These individuals are highly motivated to build their community up for the good of all those around them. Other members, maybe not so active, utilize our site as a meeting ground for clans, guilds and gaming contacts. These people are needed just as much, if not more, than our active members because they help grow our "site hits" and bring up our statistics. Our active members can only promote the site with facts and statistics.
We have hundreds of forum posters, readers, and casual browsers. Each eye on the site brings us closer to fame and ...uh... well, not fortune, but at least we can say we're cool, right? Each person that reads our forums, submits news (even if we don't accept it) or generally opens a web browser and points it at http://www.2old2play.com is contributing in their own way and they should be thanked.
Site pride is about understanding our friends and community members. We all have different roles in life. Some of us have to work our ass off with little pay, while others are more business oriented high salary workers and yet others are out of work and trying to find jobs. Some of us have families to tend to while others have divorces to finalize. We all have our ups and downs through life but we continue to come back here to meet with our buddies, play some games and socialize.
Our circle of friends breaks many common social blockades and brings everyone together under one virtual roof. We are not required to hug each other and call them brother/sister, but we can at least respect that some people have opposing views to our own. We all manage to get along fairly well without having to toss the hate. Simply amazing.
I hope each member finds their 2old2play experience a great one, and continues to support our site and our efforts. That might be 2old2con, article submissions, videos, graphics, sounds, coding, posts, or volunteer work. It may also just be using our resources to make it known that we do indeed have a large community depending on our efforts to keep a smile on their face and the gaming fun.
To those reading this that are not yet members but wish to be in the future. Hold on, count your birthdays, and click “register now” when you’re of age. You won’t regret it.
