I am offerring it out of pride. In our clan forum (OMM), we have had, in the past few weeks, two topics that could have easily turned ugly. One dealt with having religious pictures in a public school, and the other dealt with the current issues in the Middle East (Israel, Lebanon, etc). Although each thread went into 5 or more pages, at no point were there any rants. There were some strong disagreements, but they were very civil, and generally based in logical approaches to diffcult topics.
So, in these cases, it would have been a disservice to lock the thread after a page or two. Sure, there werent very many unique ideas after the first page or two, but so many people posted on both sides of the issues that it helped all of us to learn a bit more about each other.
I will agree completely with Code that many threads turn ugly, repetitive or downright infantile once they get going. Sometimes, those are the best , funniest threads to read. Other times, they are a complete waste of my time to read them. So, I am hopeful that all mods consider both the relevancy and the entertainment value when using the locks.
And, now that I am into my fourth paragraph, Code is a poophead.
<5th paragraph, full of swearing and unrelated nonsense, has been edited out by the moderators>
