Earlier in the month we went to Adventureland, an amusement park located in Des Moines, Iowa. He rode his first roller coaster and more importantly LOVED it. Then, as I mentioned in a previous blog, we attended his first baseball game.
Last night we watched Star Wars, the original one mind you, for the first time. It may sound silly but I was so amped to have him watch this movie, especially since he was the one who saw it sitting on the video shelf and asked if we could watch it. In 1977 the original Star Wars came out in the theater. I was 4 years old and asked my parents to take me. My mother took me to the theater and we saw it. While I actually remember very little about the event she claims I had a great time. So you can certainly see the connection between then and now. So 29 years have passed and I'm now 33 and my son, 4, wants to watch this movie. Its a neat world eh? I swear I was about teary eyed just thinking about it.
We order pizza, have pop(a treat for him), candy and settle in to watch the movie. From the opening music he was enthralled. He thought Chewbacca was great everytime he roared. Whenever a line would strike his fancy he would repeat it and laugh. Lightsaber has already become a household word. He thought Darth Vader was a bad guy but also thought he was tough and "cool". So I'd qualify last night as a great success.
So as we are walking up to bed at around 9:15pm, which is more than an hour past his normal bedtime, the cat is slowly walking in front of him down the hallway and he blurts out "Will somebody get this walking carpet out of my way". I about cried I was laughing so hard.
Now I'll make him wait like 3 years to watch Empire Strikes Back like I had to do...mwuahahahaha!
