The Media Is the Message!

Only time for a quickie today folks. :-) Anybody that doesn't think that the media is part of the problem is not paying attention. Furthermore, the age old right winger mantra "the liberal media" just isn't the case in reality. Check out how Newsweek scrubs clean its cover for this weeks USA issue , when compared with all its international issues. Just pathetic!

Oh and by the way, what do ya think of the new Blog background? As the Clash would say..."should it stay or should it go!? " :-)

I won't get into who the media supports and arguing if they're pro-Republican or pro-Democrat, but even prominent journalists are sounding the alarm over the media's corporatization and tendency toward sensationalism rather than providing an unbiased, responsible account of world events. I get disgusted when I go to CNN.com and on the main headlines see articles about Tom Cruise or Brangalina's baby. This is news???? I was also quite upset when I saw a piece about the cost of war in Lebanon. They showed dead and injured children and countless wounded civilians. Have you ever seen a piece like that after we accidentally bombed civilians? No. I realize it's not pleasant to see that stuff or recognize our mistakes and their consequences, but it is unbiased and it is news. Just my .02.

That's pretty weird. I was thinking that it may have to do with sales, however, I would think that the other cover would sell more than that other thing, whatever it's supposed to be about. Newsweek is a publication that is well known to lean left. They also are well known to publish whatever they want, no matter how much it stirs the pot, so this really puzzles me. I just don't get it. Personaly, I think it's a bad business decision not to go with the Afghan cover.

The media don't exist to tell the truth. They're around to sell things. In this case, the products advertised in their mags.Truth doesn't sell too well anymore.Goddamn Newsweek. If they were real Journos and not soap salesmen people would be up in arms. Why'd we outsource OBL's capture at Tora Bora? Why'd we leave a job half done and then embark on another misadventure? Why didn't we stay in Afghanistan and really finish the job? These questions remain unanswerwed and Americans get to read about Annie Liebowitz.Nothing against her, she's a great Photographer, but Afghaninstan is more important.DMAN rant concluded.

Thanks for all the posts people! I agree Bio, completely! I think the "non biased, objective reporting" aspect of journalism, at least in the Main Stream Media, was lost a while ago when they became so corporatized and profit centered, I think what Dman is saying is true, its all about selling soap and I would add, maintaining the statues quo politically. I think there was a time when the "News" and the "media" were separate entities but now they are one and the same. Allot of the recent changes in the laws that govern media, has been the major reason this has happened. Corporations have been buying up whole blocks of media outlets since those changes have occured. The corporate ownership is profit centered and could care less about journalistic non biased reporting. As well people like Ruport Murdoch have a right wing agenda that then begins to influence his companies reporting. We have always had some of that, but now that some one like him owns, massive quantities of the newspapers, radio and TV outlets , we dont get any alternative reporting. It is why we see the boom of the alternative press on line and in the Blogosphere. At least thats my opinion and im sticking to it :-) I think your point about it being a bad biz decision Go_Aachmed is correct and adds to the case that it was done for political reasons and not journalistic or even monitory reasons. Glad your digging the new bkg. Raste and Big one I think ill keep it :-) Raste! I agree on the black type but I dont think I can change that? Im also glad you like the background too jtgjr007 :-) Take a look at media matters. They spend allot of time accurately documenting the medias "right" bias. http://mediamatters.org/ "....yeh screw that magazine and there agenda and stuff...down with whitey! " Now your talking pendragon!!! :-) LOL Fox has fallen off the Flat earth!! LOL LOL LOL !!!! So true, sabresrule30, so true! Glad your liking the Blog dude. :-) I agree Dman! See my comment above to Biorod. Note that the article on Afghanistan did still run in the US edition it just wasn't the cover story. -BAT

Newsweek have done the same this week. They had it on the Today Show. 3 covers saying the Iraq war is lost, versus 1 cover with some women whose name I don`t recall on. Guess which cover you got?
