CodeMonkey has blogged about our reasons for choosing a video game company so I am not going to re-iterate. I will say that we are both gamers and own two consoles and two TVs, so we figured why not do a video game company.
It is a lot of work to get a company up and running. I never would have thought there was THAT much work involved. We decided to stock our inventory instead of drop shipping it. I had to first find distributors for the products we wanted to sell. Next it was fill out the credit applications for the distributors and promise my first born child to them. After promising the first born child, I still had to call and find out whether I was blessed enough to hand them my money. Actually, the process is very form intensive, but other than that it is not that hard.
Well I finally got some distributors lined up and compared prices on items that I wanted to buy. Some of the distributors are much easier to buy from than others. I finally got everything straightened out and ordered and shipped to me!!!
The only thing that was left to do was open the web site and start selling. On Oct 26, 2006 we "opened" the web site!!! It is pretty exciting and scary all at once. Exciting to have a company of our own and work for myself instead of someone else. I get to make my own hours for the most part and there is no commute to work. Scary because this is the first company we have ever tried to open and run. Plus we really want this company to work because it allows me to stay home with our two children.
