Shared on Tue, 11/07/2006 - 13:12Well it’s Emergence Day, kinda. If you’re lucky enough to be near an EB or GameStop that has GoW already or will have it, maybe, depending on who you ask, then it’s Emergence Day for you. Woot! Maybe tomorrow will be Emergence Day for the rest. Maybe it’ll be Sunday the 12th. Know one seems to have any definitive answers. All I know is that if I wanted to go buy the movie Cars today I could…….. anywhere………..everywhere.
So why all the confusion about what day a game will come out? Why will some stores have it today and others not until tomorrow? Why doesn’t COD3 release today as well? Why do media distributors always release disks on Tuesdays anyway? It seems like it should be pretty simple. The movie studios seem to have it down to a science. After all, the hard work of making a game is over now. Once the code is written, the graphics are rendered, a story is developed, and (hopefully) an extensive debugging session is done shouldn’t printing and distributing the disk be the easy part?
I realize I’m not an insider who understands the intricacies of the game publishing industry. Maybe there’s more at play behind the scenes than my feeble mind can comprehend. All I know is that know one seems to know exactly when they can pick up one of the most anticipated releases of the Holiday Season and if they do know that information is not the same for everyone else. I also know that I don’t even want the Cars movie, yet I can’t escape it.
