Shared on Tue, 01/02/2007 - 15:46I took quite a bit of time off this Christmas. My wife is a teacher so I was able to coordinate my leave with the break she had from school. I work at a place where there is no difference between sick leave and vacation, which (knock on wood) benefits me. I usually only have to use one or two days due to illness. I got a lot done this past week and a half. Here are the lessons learned:
1. Crown molding sucks. Very nice to look at, but a pain to install. Actually it wasn't too bad. I have tendencies towards being a perfectionist. Which is offset by my ability to screw stuff up. I did make this much harder than it needed to be which leads me to...
2. Paint the crown molding before you cut it and put it up. I tried cutting all of the pieces, then painting them, and then nailing them in place. While all of my pieces worked as I was sort of going along, I failed to realize I was probably holding the peices up differently every single freaking time, ruining my angles and making me say..
3. Thank goodness for caulk. That fixes everything.
4. The Wii is a blast. My inlaws loved the system, my father loved it. I think Nintendo really hit the nail on the head. I like that it's truly a gaming system the entire family can enjoy. The only game I've really played with anyone else is: Wii Sports. I think I'd have to go back to SNES to remember a lasting game that came with a console. Or any game that came with a console. I hope the Wii continues to see good games.
5. Remodeling leads to new furniture. My house is relatively small. I suggested to my wife that we move the China cabinet from the living room to the dining room (we had it set up because of size constraints) to help sort of fill the dining room and make it look more finished. Well that lead to needing drapes in the dining room, then drapes in the living room, then the living room was too empty, then a couch was procured to fill the emptiness. Now I think I'm done.
6. Pinatas like to fight. I can't seem to keep my pinatas from going at it. But that Viva pinata is very addicting. My wife thought it was great that i bought a game that did not involve shooting someone or using a chainsaw bayonet.
7. I suck at Rainbow Six Vegas. I've been trying the Terrorist Hunt, and can't get past the third or so guy.
I hope everyone has a great 2007.
